The morning begins in the historic heart of Istanbul. Visit the ancient Hippodrome, once the centre of Byzantine public life, followed by the magnificent Hagia Sophia, one of the city’s most iconic monuments. Nearby stands the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, better known as the Blue Mosque, famous for its elegant domes, six minarets and beautiful interior decoration.

Today you will visit Topkapi Palace, the former residence of the Ottoman sultans and a symbol of imperial power and court life. Its courtyards, pavilions and collections offer a vivid impression of the Ottoman world. Afterwards continue to the Süleymaniye Mosque, the masterpiece of the great architect Sinan and one of the finest examples of classical Ottoman architecture.

Drive to Ankara, the capital of Turkey since 1923. After arrival, enjoy a city tour introducing the modern face of the country and the history of the Turkish Republic. A highlight is Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey and one of the most respected national monuments. Overnight in Ankara.

Your journey leads to Boğazkale and Hattusa, the former capital of the Hittite Empire and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The impressive ruins of city walls, gates, temples and royal structures reflect the power of this ancient civilization. You will also visit Yazılıkaya, the famous open-air rock sanctuary with reliefs of Hittite gods. Afterwards continue to Cappadocia for three overnight stays.

Explore the Göreme Open Air Museum, where numerous cave churches and monasteries preserve remarkable traces of Byzantine monastic life. Continue to Ortahisar and Uçhisar, whose massive rock formations dominate the surrounding valleys. The day also includes Pigeon Valley, one of Cappadocia’s most picturesque landscapes, with panoramic views and countless dovecotes carved into the rocks.

Visit a traditional carpet weaving centre and learn about one of Anatolia’s oldest crafts. Afterwards explore Zelve, once one of the largest cave settlements in the region, and Monks Valley with its striking fairy chimneys. The colourful Red Valley and the historic village of Çavuşin complete the day with some of Cappadocia’s most memorable scenery.
